We customize every trip to fit your interests and your budget, so one of the first things we’ll do together is talk about what type of trip you want to experience. This will allow us to design your itinerary to fit your budget.
Generally speaking, our trips to Italy start at approximately $400 per person per day for a lovely 4-star experience and at approximately $700 per person per day for a 5-star experience.
There are many factors that can make a difference in the price of your trip. We'll go through some of these factors below.
Of course, the type of accommodations you choose is one of the biggest factors. A small farmhouse in Tuscany can be found for $350 per night, whereas you can also find a luxury suite at a 5-star villa for over $5000 per night.
We’ll work with you to ensure we find the right accommodation to fit your budget.
Although some travelers choose to stay in one spot and immerse themselves in that area, the vast majority or travelers to Italy want to move around the country and experience different areas.
Trains are the most economical way to get between different cities. Utilizing trains is a great way to save money, but some travelers may worry about managing the logistics of navigating the stations on their own. A downfall is that you don’t see much on route. Often, one of the small surprises on a trip are the unplanned stops while driving between destinations. Train travel doesn't allow for these opportunities.
Renting your own car and driving yourself provides you with the ultimate freedom, although driving in the big cities like Rome and Florence is not for the feint-hearted. The narrow streets, busy traffic and poor GPS signals can be frustrating. Outside of the big cities, though, it can be a great experience.
A private driver is a great way to see the countryside between your destinations, and hands over all of the stress to someone that knows what they’re doing. On longer transfers, we always recommend a 2-3 hour stop along the way for an interesting tour to break up the ride. Private transfers can be the more expensive way to get between destinations, but is also the most rewarding.
Of course, one way to save money in Italy is to simply explore each destination on your own. But while we always build time into our itineraries for free time to explore, we don’t recommend this for your whole trip. When you have a guide, they can bring the history, the art, the architecture and the stories of Italy to life. Also, without a guide, you'll end up standing in line for all of the major sites.
We highly discourage large group tours. The experience is normally quite general and basic in order to appeal to everyone, and you have to stick to their schedule and route, so flexibility is non-existent. The exception to this is a hop-on/hop-off style bus tour, which can be a very cost effective way to experience a city.
We love small group tours to help with the budget. You’ll have a much easier time finding one to suit your personal interests and the small size allows you to ask questions and have a more personable experience. A drawback can be that they don’t run as frequently, so you may find that they are unavailable on the day/time that you need.
Using private guide is the ultimate way to experience Italy. We can match your interests with the proper expert, and you’ll have the ultimate flexibility. Want to spend more time talking about one aspect? No problem. Bored of something and want to move on? No problem. It’s all up to you. Yes, private guides will cost more than a small group tour, but the experience will be worth it.
Our prices may be in USD or EUR, and sometimes a combination of the two, depending on what you'll be doing on your trip. When using EUR, we provide you with the current conversion in USD. Payments are generally charged in USD using the conversion rate on the day of the charge. On rare occasions, you may be required to make payments directly with suppliers on the ground in Italy, in which case they may be in Euros.
Please note that the conversion rate can change between the time you pay your deposit and the time your final payment is due. Sometimes, the conversion will work out in your favor and will save you money, but other times, it will work against you and the price will go up.
If you prefer to lock in the exchange rate, the best option is to pay the full trip price at the time of confirmation.
